238MW Solar Power Project in Atacama Desert, Chile
2021.Jul 27
Accionaenergia, the renewable energy subsidiary of Spanish energy and infrastructure company Acciona, has commissioned its 238MW Margarida photovoltaic power plant in Chile to invest in the value of 170 million US dollars. This complex is located in the Diego de Almagro commune in the Atacama Desert. This 238 MW photovoltaic power plant consists of Phase I and Phase II of Margarida, with 580,000 solar modules installed on horizontal trackers. It will generate nearly 654 gigawatts of clean energy every year.

Acciona stated that it has been cooperating with the local government to carry out an "innovative" circular economy project in the Chilean Commune. According to the project, 25,000 wooden pallets used for transport modules will be recycled in the form of furniture as vertical gardens, shelves or Hydroponics facilities, etc. Acciona said that through the project, its total renewable energy operating capacity in Chile has increased to 922 megawatts, including 5 solar photovoltaic power generation facilities and 3 wind farms.

In the solar photovoltaic market in Latin America, Chile has recently attracted some investors. EDP Renewable Energy entered the Chilean renewable energy market in May 2021, acquiring a combined wind and solar power generation of 628 MW. Recently, Mainstream Renovables established Nazca Renovables as its new Chilean hybrid renewable energy platform with a capacity of more than 1 GW.
