In 2021, photovoltaic production capacity will continue to expand wildly. On the one hand, industry leaders will compete for strength and increase production capacity to stabilize their position; on the other hand, the development potential of the photovoltaic industry will continue to attract "strength" challengers, greatly expand production capacity, and launch to leading companies With the impact, the crowds competed and the competition became fiercer.

According to incomplete statistics from Polaris Solar Photovoltaic Network, in the first half of 2021, the total scale of expansion of silicon wafers, cells, and modules will reach 390.4GW, and the total investment will exceed 71.658 billion yuan. Among them, the scale of silicon wafer expansion reached 222GW, the scale of solar cell expansion was 109.9GW, and the total scale of module expansion was 58.5GW.

Different from the balanced expansion of production capacity in each link in 2020, in the first half of 2021, silicon wafers and silicon rod ends are still the main links for enterprises to get together to invest and expand production, and the expansion and growth rate of module ends has slowed down significantly.

Wafers, silicon rods - Expansion of 222GW

Silicon wafer and silicon rod end, 11 expansion projects, the total scale of expansion is 222GW, and the total investment exceeds 33.924 billion yuan.

Silicon wafer, as a link in the concentrated expansion of production capacity in the first half of the year, has two characteristics worthy of attention. First, the investment in the first half of the year was not only focused on specialized enterprises and integrated enterprises to improve the industrial chain layout, but also new entrants were advancing vigorously and aggressively expanding production capacity. Second, the scale of investment and expansion of large-size monocrystalline silicon wafers has increased.

First of all, from the perspective of enterprises, the largest investment scale is Zhonghuan, one of the leading silicon wafer companies, with an expansion scale of 50GW; secondly, JA Solar has strengthened and improved its integrated layout, with an expansion scale of 40GW for the pulling and slicing ends; The expansion scale of the film company Jiangsu Meike reached 35GW, and the expansion scale of only the above three companies accounted for 56.3% of the total.

In the first half of the production expansion, the most outstanding performance was the equipment company Gaoce. After announcing the start of 10GW monocrystalline silicon wafer project in Jianhu, Jiangsu on July 5, it successively announced 30GW silicon wafer large-scale production capacity on July 20 Expansion plan. From the field of traditional equipment to the silicon wafer business, not only Gaoce shares, but also Shuangliang Energy-saving and CNC CNC have been accelerating the expansion of silicon wafer production capacity since 2020. In addition, not only the traditional photovoltaic equipment companies are accelerating the expansion of their business, but also the newcomers like Gaojing Solar's large-scale expansion of 50GW silicon wafer production capacity, joining the competition queue.

Secondly, from the perspective of enterprise expansion plans, the expansion of large-size silicon wafer production capacity reached 125GW, accounting for half of the total scale of silicon wafer expansion in the first half of the year. Among them, Gaoce shares plans to expand the production of 30GW large-size silicon wafers, and Jiangsu Meike plans to expand the production of 35GW large-size single crystal silicon wafers. In its second phase 12GW single crystal rod project in Baotou, the first single crystal furnace is in operation. It will be officially installed in March this year and is expected to reach production before the end of September. Shuangliang Energy has expanded its production of large-size monocrystalline silicon wafers by 20GW, and plans to implement some of its production capacity and put it into production this year, which will accelerate the expansion of large-size silicon wafer production capacity.

Cells-Expansion of 109.9GW

For the cell terminal, there were 17 expansion projects in the first half of the year, with a total expansion scale of 109.9GW and an investment of over 36.358 billion yuan.

In terms of scale, JA Solar has the largest scale of expansion, with a cumulative total of 30GW; by Zhonglai, which has expanded its production scale to 16GW; and Longji has expanded its production scale to 15GW.

In the battery expansion project, large size and heterojunction are investment highlights. Among them, Hengdian DMC plans to invest in the construction of a 4GW large-size monocrystalline cell project, Huansheng announced the construction of 2GW large-size high-efficiency cells, and Talesun Solar plans to invest in the construction of 5GW large-size photovoltaic cells.

In the expansion project of heterojunction, the wind power giant Mingyang Smart plans 5GW high-efficiency heterojunction cells, and King Kong Glass, one of the leading glass companies, plans to build a 1.2GW large-size half-cell heterojunction solar cell and module project. Feng Fashion intends to lease the 500MW production line of Juergy Power to produce heterojunction solar cells, and Anhui Huasheng New Energy's 500MW heterojunction battery project is officially put into production.

Components-58.5GW expansion

There are 12 module-side expansion projects, with a total expansion scale of 58.5GW and a total investment of over 6.4 billion yuan.

It is worth noting that after the intensive expansion of more than 360GW of photovoltaic module companies in 2020, the growth rate of module-side expansion in 2021 will start to slow down. As shown in the above table, the company that announced the largest expansion plan in the first half of the year was Jinghua New Energy, which plans to expand the production of photovoltaic modules by 8.5GW; by Dongfang Risheng and JA Solar, whose expansion plans are both at 6GW; Talesun, Mingyang Intelligent, and Zhongli The production scale of Jingfei is all at 5GW.

At the same time, under the "3060" carbon peak and carbon neutral goals, cooperation between enterprises has become closer. For example, China Nuclear Huineng signed a cooperation agreement with Tongxin County and Yingli Energy to deepen the win-win mechanism of cooperation with Tongxin County and upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain through an industrial alliance, and build a new model of integrated development of the new energy industry.
