The production technology of green hydrogen is mainly through the method of electrolysis of water, using renewable energy (such as solar energy, wind energy, nuclear energy, etc.) to generate electricity, and decomposing water into hydrogen and oxygen.
There are four main types of water electrolysis technologies: alkaline electrolysis, proton exchange membrane electrolysis, solid oxide electrolysis and alkaline cation exchange membrane electrolysis. These four technologies have their own advantages and disadvantages, mainly in the differences in efficiency, cost, life, reliability and so on.
The main challenges currently faced by green hydrogen production technology are: high cost of renewable energy power generation, large investment in electrolysis equipment, low electrolysis efficiency, and difficulty in storage and transportation. In order to reduce the production cost of green hydrogen and increase the application range of green hydrogen, it is necessary to strengthen technological innovation and infrastructure construction.
Green hydrogen is a pure zero-carbon new energy. It only produces water when it is burned, and realizes zero carbon dioxide emissions from the source. It plays an important role in the global energy transition.
Green hydrogen can effectively consume unstable power such as wind power and photovoltaic power generation, as well as other surplus valley power, realize distributed hydrogen production and "hydrogen-electric interaction", build a "distributed smart energy system", and undertake "seasonal peak-shaving power generation " and other important tasks to realize the intelligent interconnection of hydrogen and electricity energy.
Green hydrogen can replace gray hydrogen in the industrial field to achieve low-carbon emission reduction, such as iron and steel smelting, chemical synthesis and other industries, which is the key to achieving the "double carbon target".
