The US Department of Energy (DOE) yesterday announced a new National Community Solar Partnership (NCSP) goal, which is to enable the community solar system to power the equivalent of 5 million homes by 2025.
5 million homes are powered! How much solar energy does the U.S. already have in the community?
"Global Photovoltaics" understands that by the end of 2020, the community solar installed in the United States is about 3.25GW, which can power 600,000 households.
If you need to power 5 million homes, then by 2025, the US community solar power generation needs 26GW of capacity.
From 600,000 households to 5 million households, that is to say, by the end of 2025, the United States will increase community solar power generation by 730% compared with the end of 2020. According to the forecast of "Global Photovoltaics", in 2021, the community solar energy in the United States will increase by 1.5-2.0GW, and then in the remaining four years, an average of 5.3GW of community solar power will be added every year.
Because it is a community application, single-sided single-glass modules and small string or micro inverters are generally used, which is undoubtedly a major benefit for backplane companies, string inverters and micro inverter companies. Domestic micro-inverter manufacturer Jiaxing Yuneng Technology may usher in a major market opportunity!
Secretary of Energy Granholm said, “Community solar is one of our most powerful tools to provide affordable solar energy to all American households, regardless of whether they own a house or have a roof suitable for solar panels, to achieve these ambitious goals. It will bring meaningful energy cost savings, create jobs in these communities, and make our clean energy transition more equitable."
The Community Solar Access Alliance believes that this is an announcement of strong US policies and goals. DOE's action to reach 26 GW by 2025
